Migrating from Vend

The Vend platform offers a free Integration app which connects Vend data to Shopify. This app can help you easily bring over your product data. The app they offer is not intended to be used as a migration tool however, so there will be additional steps that you must take before the products are ready to sell on the Shopify POS.

This integration is offered on Vend's system, so you will download it and set it up while logged into your Vend account. While logged in, you will find the option to add the app under Retail POS, then open the Setup page, and click Apps.

After the app is installed, you will be asked to enter your Shopify account details to make a connection. Then, the next step will ask you to manually select which products you'd like to push to Shopify, or alternatively you can push all Vend products to Shopify with just one click.

The Vend app will not be able to put data in all of the needed Shopify POS fields, namely the Barcode field. If you would like to use your existing Vend UPC Barcodes while selling on Shopify, please follow the rest of the instructions on this page after you have successfully pushed your products from Vend to Shopify using their integration.



The Vend system uses their SKU code field as a Barcode as well. This doesn't work well in Shopify because we have a separate field for SKU and Barcode.

In Shopify, the SKU Code field can be used as a unique naming convention to allow you to identify products easier, meanwhile the Barcode field is solely used with the POS system to allow staff to find the item while using scanners.

The Vend integration app will put your codes in our SKU field, which does not allow you to scan the items on our POS to add them to the cart. To move them to the proper Barcode field, we can do a simple export and re-import process to move the codes into the needed field. The process is very straightforward, and only takes a few minutes to complete.

Note: This method of moving Barcode data is best used by stores that only have products in Shopify that were moved from Vend. If you had previous products in Shopify that were using the SKU and Barcode field already, please contact your Launch Engineer for assistance on next steps.
