Frequently asked questions

You can choose to compose a full Shopify Product CSV instead, if you are not successful with the Simple and Standard methods.

You will start from a completely blank CSV template. Find our tutorial and blank CSV template on this page.

If all of your products are showing 0 inventory, and all products have a unique SKU, you can use the Stocky app to perform an Inventory Adjustment to quickly adjust your inventory quantities to the stock levels that appeared on your exported file. The app is free to use with any POS Pro plan, and this process will match products by finding a matching the SKU from your CSV and then import the inventory count for each SKU that is found on the file. This video explains the process.

Otherwise, if your products were not uploaded with a unique SKU then you can adjust the inventory quantities via the Admin, or using the Inventory.csv. This video explains this option.

Yes, you can use the Shopify Mobile Admin app on your iPad or mobile phone to use the back facing camera to count inventory by scanning barcodes. Please note that this app is different than the Shopify POS that you will use to sell items in your store.

You can download the app on multiple devices and have multiple staff members count inventory using this method at the same time. If you choose to use multiple devices, it is a good idea to separate or segment your products to avoid double counting. Here is a video on the process.

Products must be Published to the POS channel in Admin, after you import the data. At the moment, there is no field on our CSV format to publish items to the POS, there is only a field to publish to the Online Store.

If you want to push all your products to the POS, you can follow this video here to publish your entire catalogue to the POS.

For most users, there is very little risk if you publish all products to the POS channel because only staff will see the product info, and the products will only be sold once you launch with Shopify POS. This process does not effect your online store in any way.

With Shopify, our native customer system will allow you to import basic customer information, such as name, phone number, email, and shipping address. Any other information outside of this list (such as birthday, purchase history, loyalty points, etc) cannot be imported into Shopify's native system.

The only requirement to import a customer profile is one of the following: First OR Last name, email, or phone number. As long as you have one of those fields fielled out, the customer can exist.

If you have existing customers in your Shopify Admin, any new Customer CSV file that is uploaded will be checked for duplicates. Shopify will only use the the customer email or phone number to check for duplicates, you cannot check for duplicates based on name. If there is a duplicate found, you will have the choice to skip the CSV line, or overwrite your Shopify data with the CSV data.

To download a sample Customer CSV, please visit this page. You will find a description of each field on the same page.

There is no native way to import previous order history into Shopify, you must use an app to do it.

Even with the help of the apps, the process is quite tedious. Typically order data is the most complex type of data that can be exported from any platform. Because of this, we urge you to think about how you want to use the data before importing.

When orders are imported into Shopify, they are only good for looking up specific orders 1 at a time if needed, as imported orders will be omitted from reports in many cases. It is also important to note that you cannot perform actions (refunds, exchanges) from the order records that are imported.

If possible, you could simply export a CSV of the old orders and reference that file when needed, instead of importing the data directly into Shopify. Or, upload your order history to an accounting software to look at previous sales data, if you are already using accounting software.

If you absolutely need to upload that data to Shopify, we suggest using EZImporter, or Matrixify to import. (These are apps with an additional fee)

There are a two suggestions for moving Gift Card data. The best choice depends on the amount of gift card codes you need to import. Here are the options:

Low amount (1-500): Manually key in the codes 1 by 1 via Shopify Admin. Here is a video on the process.

Medium to Large (500+): Use an app like Selling Point to import gift cards using a CSV upload. This option will let you upload a CSV file for your cards. (This app has an additional cost to use)

Please note that Shopify requires codes that are a minimum of 8 digits long. Codes can be alpha-numberical.

Shopify does not offer a paid service where one of our team members will do the work for you.
